Patient Selection & Counseling

Before using NovaSure Endometrial Ablation:

  • Always screen and evaluate patients for etiology of bleeding
  • Consult the NovaSure instructions for use
  • Attain documented diagnosis of menorrhagia secondary
    to other underlying causes
  • Verify that uterine cavity is normal/unobstructed

Use saline infusion sonography, hysteroscopy, or hysterosalpingography to rule out large fibroids, large polyps, and congenital abnormalities

  • Take uterine sound measurement to assure depth <10 cm
  • Verify uterine cavity length >4 cm and width >2.5 cm
  • Patients must not have a suspected or confirmed uterine malignancy within the last 5 years as confirmed by histology

Important points to discuss with your patients about the NovaSure Procedure:

  • NovaSure Endometrial Ablation is not for women who plan to have a future pregnancy
  • The NovaSure Procedure is not a sterilization technique; contraception or sterilization should be used after the procedure
  • The goal of this procedure is a reduction of bleeding to normal levels; in some cases, total cessation of bleeding can occur
